The Secret Ingredient To Turn Anyone (or Any Team) Into A Winner

What if the key to turning anyone into a winner lies in just two simple ingredients?

Many people believe that success requires an intricate blend of talent, luck, and opportunity, and they chase after these elusive elements tirelessly. And while these factors can play a role, the true secret often boils down to something much more fundamental and accessible to everyone. But uncovering these essential ingredients isn't always straightforward, as it requires a shift in perspective and a willingness to change. Therefore, by exploring what truly drives success and focusing on what you can control, you can unlock the potential to transform anyone (or any team) into a winner - including turning yourself into the winner.

If you are tired of getting mediocre results, this leadership letter is for you. In this blog, I’m to reveal something that can change the way you approach success:

Discover the two fundamental principles that have consistently transformed ordinary people into extraordinary achievers.
My Journey to Success: How embracing these simple yet powerful ingredients empowered me to reinvent myself and build a personal brand.
Practical steps you can take today to becoming a winner in any area of your life, or how to use this to build a winning team.

The Two Principles of Success

The key ingredients to turning anyone into a winner are simple: attitude and action. These two principles are the foundation upon which true success is built, and they are accessible to everyone, regardless of background or current circumstances.

The right attitude shapes your perspective, drives your motivation, and fuels your resilience in facing challenges. With the right attitude, you uncover your strengths, believe in your potential, and maintain optimism, even when the going gets tough. When you cultivate the right attitude, your mind stays open, and your belief system grows positively.

Action, on the other hand, is the tangible step you take towards your goals. It’s not enough to just have the right attitude; you must also be willing to take decisive and consistent actions. Every small step forward brings you closer to achieving your aspirations, transforming your dreams into reality. The action bridges the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

Together, attitude and action form a powerful duo that can propel anyone towards extraordinary achievements. Whether you're starting from scratch or looking to elevate your current status, embracing these two principles will set you on the path to success.

Reinventing Myself

It never took me long to lose interest in a new job, I realized it would take me less than six months before the excitement wore off and the desire to do my own thing took over. And as someone who values leadership and growth, I was frustrated by the constant need for approval to implement my ideas. I would grow frustrated with measuring metrics that had zero to do with moving the needle. I’d quickly become resentful of more redundant “checks and balances” put into place that didn’t add anything to creating a system of greatness. But I longed to take initiative, make impactful changes, and see the direct results of my efforts without having to ask for permission. Therefore, I decided to take control of my future by reinventing myself, seeking opportunities where I could lead with flexibility, make swift decisions, and truly make a difference in people's lives. This journey taught me the true power of taking charge of my own path and how it can transform not just a career, but an entire life.

My passion to work toward someone else’s dream or goal might have diminished, but the passion I had to put my own thoughts and ideas into the world only grew larger. My mission became clear to me: to help others find their greatness. It took me a while to find mine, but once I did, I realized the power and magic that lies within.

Everyone is destined to do something truly exceptional. Everyone will make an impact on someone’s life. What impact you make determines what you believe about yourself. This is where you begin to plant the seeds of greatness in your mind. Cultivated and nurtured properly, the seeds you plant today begin to grow roots and eventually sprout into something you can only experience once you water it with the right attitude. The one winning principle I’ve learned in life is:

“You are either the captive or the captain of your thoughts.”

Before I could step out into the public eye, I had to have strong roots. That meant before anyone else accepted me as a counsel to greatness I needed to see myself as that very person. I needed to hear it in my own mind more than it would be said anyplace else. And, I need to feel it deep in my soul. The vision, words, and feelings all had to align.

This wasn’t easy for me. I had decades of bad conditioning to overcome. I had years of criticism to defeat, and I had a lifetime of other peoples’ fears and doubts that needed to be faced and crushed out for good.

A statement that helped me crush my inner critic was this:

“One third of people will love you, one third of people will hate you, and one third don’t care. It is your job to get the one third that don’t care to start to care.”

Once I really embraced and emotionally understood this statement, I began to realize what noise to silence. Knowing what to cut out is far more important than knowing what to add. You see, this statement sounds like a statement about others, but it is about your own inner voices. One third of the time they love you, one third of the time they hate you, and one third don’t care. You got to focus on the third that love you and convince the other third to care about loving you.

There will be plenty of time in life to learn all your weaknesses. The quicker you can uncover your strengths and lead with them, the quicker you will see success. I realized my strength was seeing greatness in others, and believing in their dreams and ideas. I use that today to create a personal brand that helps others overcome limitations so they can keep working toward their dreams - in other words, becoming a true leader and winner in their life.

The moment you actualize the only limits are the ones self-imposed, will be the moment you move off the sidelines of life and start taking action toward the things that bring you fulfillment.

The Practical Steps to Winning

I said earlier there are only two simple foundational skills to becoming a winner. The steps I outline below are what you use to get into the winner’s circle of life. This in turn can be directed toward anyone else and any team you lead.

There is a three-step makeup to these principles with one attitude and one action that fit under each of the five steps.

Step #1

Attitude: self-expectancy
Winners expect one thing, to win. They know “luck” strikes when preparation and opportunity meet. It starts with the right attitude when you wake in the morning and what follows you throughout the day. An optimistic, positive, and patient outlook attracts the right outcomes and results. Winner’s think: Good effort today, tomorrow, I’ll do better, and next time I’ll get it right” (and then I’ll work until I can’t get it wrong).

What do you expect for yourself?

All winners are “self-made.”

Action: self-motivation
A common thought is that motivation comes from outside the person in the form of pep talks, team huddles, incentives, contests, and rallies. This can be helpful with inspiration and jump starting a person to action, but only if they want to. There are only two motivators in life: fear and desire. One drives negative emotions, and one drives positive emotions. Fear is the great negative motivator. In turn, desire is the universe’s great magnetic. It pulls everything toward it.

What motivates you?

To be a high-achiever and effective leader focus on what you want rather than spending time trying to move away from what you fear or don’t want.

Step #2

Attitude: self-image
Winner’s inner image, feelings, and words they use when they talk to themselves reflect who they want to be, not who they think they are not. The power of suggestion isn’t something reserved for others to use on others, it is just as powerful when we use our own self-suggestion on our self-image. What you think and believe becomes your reality.

What is your inner mirror reflecting back to you? What do you say to yourself? How do you feel about yourself?

You can quickly enter the winner’s circle by simply seeing what you want, hearing yourself win at life, and feel grateful for everything you experience.

Action: self-direction
To really enter the winner’s circle in life all champions have a game plan they execute daily. They don’t let distraction derail their efforts, and they don’t let themselves get in their own way. With a purpose, you become unstoppable even in the face of the harshest critics or the worst of conditions. Goals become the game plan you execute in life, but only if they are fueled by an inner commitment.

What purpose do you have? What game plan will you execute? What fuel will you use to bring life to your dreams?

Step #3

Attitude: self-control
At the core of a winner’s heart, they know they are the only ones who can take credit or blame for what they get. To enter the winner’s circle, you have to make it happen in your life. You can not sit on the sidelines and wait for it to happen.

Who is in control of your life?

Action: self-discipline
Self-discipline is doing what you need to do, not what you want to do. Without this single quality, none of these steps matter. You have to have the discipline to continue to build a habit and natural reflex of winning in your life. The life you live is personal. Your personal victories are something you must attend to every day. To enter the winner’s circle, you must see, hear, and feel that you are winning each important personal victory. It must be something that you discipline yourself to do daily.

What will you make a habit of today?

I said earlier there are only two simple foundational skills to becoming a winner. The steps I outline below are what you use to get into the winner’s circle of life. This in turn can be directed toward anyone else and any team you lead.

There is a five-step makeup to these principles with one attitude and one action that fit under each of the five steps.
